Mafia District has 8 Administrative Wards with a total of 6 O- Level registered Secondary Schools being owned by the Government. There are 1726 students (742 boys, 984 girls) and 135 teachers (91 men, 44 women). The District is facing an acute shortage of 30 qualified teachers for Science and Mathematics subjects as there are only 23 available teachers in these disciplines.
2. SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURES
The District has a total of 2073 desks with an excess of 347 desks, 76 pit latrines with a shortage of 20 pit latrines, 85 classrooms with a shortage of 11 classrooms, 42 teachers’ houses with a shortage of 93 houses, 15 Laboratories with a shortage of 3 Laboratories and 3 hostels with a shortage of 9 hostels
3. PROCESS TOWARDS IMPROVING KITOMONDO SECONDARY SCHOOL
The District has no A-Level registered Secondary School, and thus more efforts are being made to ensure that Kitomondo Secondary School is improved and upgraded to meet the requirements needed for A - Level registration.
Currently, the construction of 8 Pit latrines, 3 classrooms, 3 Laboratories for Science subjects, Library, Teachers’ office and Hostel for Girls in this particular School has been made complete. The District is striving to get funds to facilitate the construction of Dining hall, 3 more classrooms, 1 more Hostel for Boys and Administration Block.
4. PERFORMANCE TREND IN NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS
The District Performance in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) has dropped from 76% (CSEE 2014) to 64% (CSEE 2015). Furthermore, attached herewith are Photos for different existing School infrastructures.
